CARVED CAKE: NIKE SHOE

Lately, I've been doing a lot more more sculpted cakes than the traditional wedding cakes and I want to share some photos of the Nike shoe that we sculpted out of cake. The groom loved his Nike Air Jordan shoes so much and his fiance wanted us to replicate his favorite pair. The shoe and the shoe box were both chocolate cakes filled with espresso cream and iced with delicious vanilla buttercream. All of the details (stitching, Nike logo, shoe lace) were done freehand. It was definitely a lot of fun to make, quite challenging and yummy too! Hope you enjoyed the photos!

FLORAL BOUQUET WEDDING CAKE AND HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Happy New Year everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. 2010 was definitely a fun and successful year at Pastry Passion. I've done a lot of celebration cakes, challenging designs and met wonderful clients through my "caking."

My first cake for 2011 was a Garden inspired wedding cake. This cake was a gift surprise from the sister of the bride and she wanted a simple 2-tier ivory fondant cake with assorted flowers to crown the top tier. To match the wedding's color palette of rose pink and taupe, I sculpted gumpaste roses, hydrangeas, leaves, filler flowers and adorned the sides of the cake with taupe lace appliques. The cake's flavor was red velvet filled with cream cheese icing and iced with vanilla buttercream.

Below, I'd like to share some nice pictures and comments from the bride and the sister:
"Everybody loved your cake, Shirley. Thank you!"

Here's a close up view of the lace applique.
